PM congratulates His Majesty King Abdullah II and people of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the state of Jordan

Highlights
  • Prime Minister Modi hailed the far-sighted leadership of His Majesty, under whom Jordan has achieved sustainable and inclusive growth, and remarkable developments in economic and socio-cultural fields. 
  • India and Jordan were united in the belief that moderation and peaceful co-existence were essential for peace and prosperity. 
  • The two sides would continue to walk side by side in their joint efforts for a greater future for all humanity.
Hashemites
  • King Abdullah II and Prince Hamzah belong to the Hashemite royal family responsible for establishing the modern state of Jordan in 1921.
  • Hashemites claim to be direct descendants of Prophet Muhammad through his daughter Fatima and her husband Ali bin Abi Talib. 
  • The Hashemites led the liberation of Arab lands from the Ottomon Empire through the Great Arab Revolt of 1916.
  • Al-Hussein bin Ali, the great-great-grandfather of King Abdullah II, led the revolt and freed the lands of Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Syria and the Hijaz.
