Army's common uniform for officers of Brigadier rank and above

In News
  • Indian Army will adopt a common uniform for Brigadier and above rank officers irrespective of the parent cadre and appointment.
Significance
  • The primary reason for the decision to adopt a common uniform for senior officers is to promote a common identity and approach in service matters among the force’s senior leadership.
  • The Army believes that this move will help move beyond the boundaries of regimentation and create a sense of unity among the senior officers.
  • By deciding to adopt a standard uniform for senior officers, the Indian Army is strengthening its reputation as a just and impartial institution.
  • This decision will not affect the uniform worn by Colonels and officers below that rank.
  • This helps in strengthening camaraderie, esprit de corps, and regimental ethos, which are the foundation of soldiering.
  • A unique sense of identity at the unit or battalion level indicates a strong bond among officers and men in the same regiment.
