Bharat Electronics signs MoU with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation

In News 
  • Bharat Electronics signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for jointly developing the Indigenous Communication-based Train Control System (i-CBTC).
i-CBTC 
  • i-CBTC, being indigenously developed for the first time in India, will enable unmanned operations of metro and trains.
  • It is a big leap forward in the field ofmetro and rail automation and will give a boost to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission of the Government of India.
  • The project is being carried out under the ambit of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India.
  • The MoU aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and DMRC.
  • The ATS (or Automatic Train Supervision) is a computer-based system, which manages train operations, including basic functioning such as running and halting.

  • Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) is a Navratna public sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Defence engaged in the design, development, manufacturing, supply and support of a wide range of defence electronics products, systems, strategic components, services and select non-defence products.
  • BEL’s revenue grew to Rs 3,962 crore in September quarter compared to Rs 3,678 crore in the same quarter a year ago.
