A massive hack in the US has been reported using a novel set of tools.

About the attack
  • Cyberattacks like this are called “supply chain attacks,” where hackers hijack trusted software updates provided by legitimate companies to break into their customers’ networks. 
  • In this case, the target was an IT management software called Orion, supplied by the Texas-based company SolarWinds.
  • Microsoft confirmed it has found evidence of the malware on their systems, although it added there was no evidence of “access to production services or customer data”, or that its “systems were used to attack others”.
