Catch the Rain Programme

In News 
  • Catch the Rain (JSA:CTR) campaign involves inter-sectoral convergence of all development programmes of the Central as well as State Government.
  • Funds under different schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and Repair, Renovation & Restoration, Watershed Development Component, Per Drop More Crop under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) etc. are leveraged for the implementation of JSA:CTR.
About the programme 
  • AIM- to take water conservation at grass-root level through people's participation.
  • It is intended to nudge all stakeholders to create rainwater harvesting structures suitable to the climatic conditions and subsoil strata, to ensure proper storage of rainwater.
  • A financial grant of Rs. 2.00 lakh is allocated by Ministry of Jal Shakti to every district to meet part of the expenditure in Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping of water bodies and preparation of scientific plans.
  • CTR was implemented in all districts (Urban and Rural) of the country with five focused interventions-
  • rainwater harvesting & water conservation
  • enumerating, geo-tagging & making inventory of all water bodies; preparation of scientific plans for water conservation 
  • Setting up Jal Shakti Kendras in all districts
  • intensive afforestation and
  • awareness generation.
