Choksi captured in Dominica

Fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi, who had recently fled from Antigua and Barbuda, was captured in neighbouring Dominica after an Interpol Yellow Notice was issued against him.

  • Choksi had been living in Antigua and Barbuda since 2018 after taking the citizenship.
  • Choksi, who is wanted in a ₹13,500-crore loan fraud in Punjab National Bank.
  • Mehul Choksi and his nephew, celebrity jeweller Nirav Modi, had skipped India in January 2018, weeks before the PNB scam surfaced.
  • Mehul Choksi has claimed that the cases against him are a result of political conspiracy, and his properties in India were illegally attached by the Enforcement Directorate.
Yellow Notice
  • A Yellow Notice is a global police alert for a missing person. It is published for victims of parental abductions, criminal abductions (kidnappings) or unexplained disappearances.
  • The Yellow Notice can also be used to help identify a person who is unable to identify himself or herself.
  • This is a valuable law enforcement tool that can increase the chances of a missing person being located, particularly if there is a possibility that the person might travel, or be taken, abroad.
