  • Like each year the National Civil Services Day will be celebrated on 21 April 2023. Since the year 2006, April 21 is designated as National Civil Services Day. It is observed throughout the nation.
About Civil Services Day
  • The theme for National Civil Services Day 2023 is “Viksit Bharat“.
  • Though National Civil Services Day was first observed on 21 April 2006.
  • The reason for celebrating this particular day as National Civil Services Day goes far back in history.
  • Our first Home Minister, also known as the Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel believed in civil services as an essential component of nation-building.
  • It was in 1947 while addressing the Probationary Officers at the All India Administrative Service Training School at Metcalfe House, Delhi, he first referred to the civil servants/ services as the ” Steel Frame Of India”.
Significance
  • It is dedicated to recognizing and inspiring government workers. It serves as a day to appreciate the efforts and contributions of civil service officers who work tirelessly to serve the nation.
  • The day provides an opportunity for the Central Government to evaluate the performance of various departments under the civil services and acknowledge their achievements.
  • The Prime Minister of India bestows Awards for Excellence on this day, honoring outstanding individuals and groups for their exemplary work in public administration.
  • Organized by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, the event brings together officers from Central and State Governments who are recognized for their exceptional services in their respective fields.
