Defence Expo 2022

In News
  • Preparations were in full swing as several armoured vehicles and aircraft had already started arriving in Gandhinagar ahead of the Defence Expo 2022, which was to be held from March 10-14.

Details
  • According to officials, helicopters, battle tanks and aircraft scheduled to be displayed at the DefEXPO 2022 had already started arriving at the Helipad Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, which was the main venue for the event.
  • However, Bharat Bhushan Babu, MoD spokesperson, cited “logistics problems being faced by participants” for postponing the event.
  • Everybody associated with DefEXPO is going to face losses.
  • This includes vendors, suppliers and hospitality partners. The losses are more for hotels because we have perishable inventory and cannot replace those dates with something else.
  • It was the first time Gujarat was hosting the DeFEXPO.
  • The event was expected to provide some impetus to the defence manufacturing that is currently at a nascent stage with a handful of players.

About DeFEXPO
  • DefExpo is a flagship biennial event of the Ministry of Defence, showcasing the land, naval, air as well as homeland security systems.
  • The aim of the DefExpo 2022 is to build upon the vision to achieve Atmanirbharta’ in defence and reach the $5bn defence exports target by 2024.
  • The 11th edition of DefExpo was held at Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) in 2020.
