Delhi Govt Launches Summer Action Plan To Curb Air Pollution

In News
  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched an action plan to combat air pollution during the summer months with a focus on controlling dust pollution.
About Action Plan
  • In order to address the problem of dust pollution in the summer months, the Delhi administration has acquired a total of 84 mechanical road sweepers, 609 water sprinklers, and 185 mobile anti-smog guns.
  • Additionally, the government is procuring 70 integrated road sweeping machines and 250 integrated water sprinklers to further improve the air quality.
  • Thirteen air pollution hotspots will undergo real-time source apportionment studies.
  • These studies help identify factors responsible for the increase in air pollution at any spot, such as vehicles, dust, biomass burning, and emissions from industries.
  • Construction sites with an area exceeding 500 square meters will be under close surveillance to prevent dust pollution.
  • Moreover, a standard operating procedure has been prepared to prevent fire incidents at landfill sites, and a plan is being prepared for the scientific disposal of industrial waste.
  • The Delhi government is working in tandem with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to revive and beautify parks in the city.
  • Around 3,500 parks in Delhi greater than half an acre will be beautified by December this year, and 17,000 parks under the MCD will be beautified by March next year.
