FAME II scheme

In News 
  • Price Bids of the Grand Challenge tender process under the remodeled FAME II scheme for electric buses were opened by Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI).
Fame II Scheme 
  • In June 2021, the FAME II scheme was remodel led and its delivery mechanism changed to better suit the needs of state transport undertakings, especially in their financial ability to afford electric buses.
  • A total of INR 10,000 crore has been kept aside for three years till 2022 for the FAME 2 scheme. 
  • More emphasis was laid on the electrification of public transportation, including shared transport as well.
  • Through this scheme, it was decided to support (through subsidies) close to 7000 e-Buses, 5 lakh e-3 Wheelers, 55000 e-4 Wheeler Passenger Cars and 10 lakh e-2 Wheelers.
  • Those 3-Wheel (W) and 4-Wheel (W) will be considered for the incentive that is used mainly for public transport or is registered as commercial vehicles.
  • In the 2-Wheel (W) segment, more emphasis was laid on the private vehicles.
  • To promote the latest technologies, the advantages of incentives and offers were given to the owners of those vehicles which have advanced batteries like a Lithium-ion battery and other new and environment-friendly technology batteries.
  • Under this scheme, it was decided to construct more charging stations, close to 3000 charging stations will be established in metro cities, other million-plus cities, smart cities and cities of Hilly states in the coming years so that at least one charging station can be established within a distance of 3 km.
