Fortune India Rich List 2022: 142 billionaires worth $832 billion

  • The wealth of 142 billionaires based in India is collectively worth $832 billion (Rs 66.36 trillion), according to a Fortune India’s list of ‘India’s Richest’ for 2022.
Major Findings 
  • According to Forbes real­time billionaires list, Asia’s richest man Gautam Adani has overtaken Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to become the 3rd richest person in the world. He became India’s richest man with a net worth of USD 129.16 billion (Rs. 10.29 trillion)
  • Meanwhile, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani’s net worth stands at USD 94 billion becoming the 8th richest in the world and the 2nd richest in India.
  • Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk leads the list of the rich with a net worth of USD 253 billion, followed by French business magnate Bernard Arnault, who has a net worth of USD 154.9 billion.
  • Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani’s wealth has also increased. With this, his net worth has increased by USD 2.3 billion to USD 94.6 billion. With this, he has come from number nine in the list to number eight.

  • The maiden list, made in collaboration with wealth management firm, Waterfield Advisors, is primarily based on the wealth of entrepreneurs of listed firms.
Adani Group 
  • An Indian multinational conglomerate, headquartered in Ahmedabad, was established by Gautam Adani in 1988.
  • It was founded as a commodity trading business under name Adani Enterprises Limited.
  • Its diverse businesses include port management, airport operation, mining, electric power generation & transmission, renewable energy, natural gas, food processing and infrastructure.
