HPCL commences its first Cow dung to Compressed Biogas Project

In News 
  • HPCL commenced its Cowdung to Compressed Biogas Project at Sanchore, Rajasthan. This will be HPCL’s first project under Waste to Energy portfolio.
Features of the project 
  • The plant will utilize 100 tons of dung per day to produce biogas, which can be used as automotive fuel.
  • The project is being developed under GOBAR-Dhan scheme launched by Government of India in Apr’18 as a part of the Biodegradable Waste Management component under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) to positively impact cleanliness and generate wealth and energy from cattle and organic waste.
  • Waste-to-Energy (WtE) or Energy-from-Waste (EfW) is a form of energy recovery and the process of generating energy in the form of electricity and/or heat by the processing of waste into a fuel source.
