India Launches E-Amrit Portal on Electric Vehicles at COP26

The Government of India launched the E-Amrit web portal on electric vehicles at the COP26 Summit
in Glasgow.

Aim

  • The e-AMRIT portal aims at creating awareness about electric mobility in India.
    The e-AMRIT portal aims to accelerate the initiatives of the government on raising awareness of electric vehicles and sensitizing consumers on the benefits of adopting electric vehicles.
  • The e-AMRIT portal aims to be an accelerator of change and influence millions of users and stakeholders to adopt electric vehicles.
  • The portal has been built to address the needs and priorities of future electric vehicle users, early electric vehicle adopters, academia, government, industry, research community, and businesses.

Objective

  • The important purpose of the E-Amrit portal is to increase awareness about electrical vehicles and encourage people to switch to such vehicles.
  • To ensure the decarbonization of transport with the introduction of electric mobility that would assist in reducing the carbon footprint.
  • Initiatives like the launch of the E-Amrit portal will play a pivotal role in increasing the pace of zero emission vehicle transition and also address the challenges.
  • NITI Aayog intends to add more features and introduce innovative tools to make the E-Amrit portal more interactive and user-friendly.

Details

  • E-Amrit is a one-stop destination for all information on electric vehicles—busting myths around the adoption of EVs, their purchase, investment opportunities, policies, subsidies, etc.
  • The portal has been developed and hosted by NITI Aayog under a collaborative knowledge exchange programme with the UK government and as part of the UK–India Joint Roadmap 2030, signed by the Prime Ministers of the two countries.
  • E-Amrit intends to complement initiatives of the government on raising awareness on EVs and sensitizing consumers on the benefits of switching to electric vehicles.
  • 2030 Vision:  India and the UK are committed to a partnership that delivers for both countries.
  • Both nations recognize that the 2030 vision is for establishing revitalized and dynamic connections between its people. It aims at strengthening collaboration on clean transport, including in the areas of e-vehicles, charging infrastructure and battery storage.
