India's first rapid rail ready for technical trial

In News 
  • The country's first rapid rail transit system, being developed by National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) in Ghaziabad, is ready for a trial run. 
  • It will be a fast-paced regional transport system that will be operated from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh via Ghaziabad.
Rapid Rail Train
  • Two types of trains will function under Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
  • The first train is called Rapid Rail and will run from Modipuram via Begumpur Partapur to Sarai Kale Khan of Delhi.
  • The second one is called Meerut Metro and will run from Modipuram via Begumpur to Partapur.
  • The number of rapid rail trains will be up to 30, at a frequency of every 10 minutes.
  • The trains will run at a speed of 160 km/hr and will cover the distance between Delhi to Meerut in just 55 minutes.
Features
  • This rapid rail is a high-speed aerodynamic rail. Its front part is like a long nose so that it can run faster than normal trains.
  • Rapid Rail boasts an attractive modern design with a regenerative braking system that will generate electricity.
  • This rail is a fully automatic train which means that it will run on automatic operation and security will be equipped with automatic control.
  • Facilities like CCTV cameras, laptop mobile charging, dynamic route map reading, ventilation, air conditioning etc. will also make the journey great.
