ISRO Successfully Launches New Rocket To Deploy 3 Satellites Into Orbit

  • SSLV-D2, the Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) new rocket successfully placed three satellites into the intended orbit shortly after its launch from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh recently.
About Satellite
  • Mission is accomplished successfully. SSLV-D2 placed EOS-07, Janus-1, and AzaadiSAT-2 into their intended orbits.
  • The three satellites that were placed into the orbit are ISRO's EOS-07, US-based firm Antaris' Janus-1 and Chennai-based space start up SpaceKidz's AzaadiSAT-2, an 8.7 kg satellite developed by 750 girl students from across India.
  • It was the second developmental flight of Small Satellite Launch Vehicle by the space agency.
About SSLV
  • SSLV caters to the launch of up to 500 kg satellites to low earth orbits on 'launch-on-demand' basis.
  • It provides low-cost access to space, offers low turn-around time and flexibility in accommodating multiple satellites, and demands minimal launch infrastructure.
AzaadiSAT-2
  • Vidya Gagare, along with 749 other girls studying in government schools across the country, came together to create the AzaadiSat 2.0 satellite for Chennai-based start-up Space Kidz India.
  • Space Kidz India is a 7-year-old aerospace start-up working in design, fabrication and launch of small satellites, spacecrafts and ground systems.
  • It has launched 18+ BalloonSats, 3 sub-orbital payloads and 3 orbital satellites.
  • The satellite is also equipped with a long-range transmitter, a solid-state radiation sensor and an expandable structure.
EOS- 07
  • It is an earth observation satellite.
  • EOS-02 is Technology demonstration satellite for various new technologies with applications that include agriculture, forestry, geology, hydrology, miniaturised power electronics, reaction wheels etc. and forming the payload for SSLV (Small Satellite Launch Vehicle)-1.
