ISRO to launch PSLV-C54 with Oceansat-3, 8 nano satellites

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation will launch PSLV-C54/ EOS-06 mission with Oceansat-3 and eight nano satellites on board from Sriharikota spaceport.
About PSLV-C54 
  • The mission includes EOS-06 (Oceansat-3) plus eight nano satellites (BhutanSat, 'Anand' from Pixxel, Thybolt two numbers from Dhruva Space, and Astrocast - four numbers from Spaceflight USA). 
  • Oceansat-3 is the fourth of five planned earth observation satellites to be launched as part of the Oceansat series.
  • The satellite will serve the purpose of carrying out collection of oceanographic and atmospheric data.  
  • The Indian space agency's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre has conducted the Integrated Main Parachute Airdrop Test (IMAT) of its crew module deceleration system for maiden Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme.
Earth Observation Satellite 
  • Earth observation satellites are the satellites equipped with remote sensing technology. Earth observation is the gathering of information about Earth's physical, chemical and biological systems.
  • Many earth observation satellites have been employed on sun-synchronous orbit.
  • Other earth observation satellites launched by ISRO include RESOURCESAT- 2, 2A, CARTOSAT-1, 2, 2A, 2B, RISAT-1 and 2, OCEANSAT-2, Megha-Tropiques, SARAL and SCATSAT-1, INSAT-3DR, 3D, etc.
