‘LVM-3’ ready to enter global commercial satellite launch market with the launch of 36 satellites of British startup OneWeb: ISRO

  • Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)’s heaviest rocket ‘LVM-3’ will launch 36 satellites of British startup OneWeb from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on 23 October. 
LVM-3 
  •  ‘LVM-3’ was earlier known as ‘GSLV Mk-3’ rocket. 
  • This is the first dedicated commercial launch of LVM-3 through NSIL on demand basis. 
  • This agreement with OneWeb is a milestone for NSIL and ISRO as the ‘LVM-3’ rocket is set to enter the global commercial satellite launch market.
  • ‘LVM-3’ is a three-stage launch vehicle consisting of two solid motor strap-ons, a liquid propellant stage and a cryogenic stage.
  • The rocket is capable of launching four tonne class satellites into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). Bharti Enterprises of India is a major investor and shareholder in OneWeb.
