  • The Minister of State for Education and External Affairs Rajkumar Ranjan Singh released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2023.
Major Highlights
  • IIT Madras has retained its position as the number 1 college under the overall category for the fifth consecutive year and the best engineering institute for the eighth consecutive year.
  • The top management college is IIM-Ahmedabad, however, three engineering colleges are under the top 10 B-school category.
  • Under the best university category, IISc Bangalore has topped the university rankings followed by JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia.
  • Three private universities have also made it to the list. Meanwhile, AIIMS Delhi too, retains the number one position under the medical colleges category.
  • Jamia retained its 3rd position in Universities Category in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2023 for the second consecutive year.
NIRF Rankings
  • The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the Ministry of Education (Erstwhile Ministry of Human Resource Development) in September 2015.
  • It is the first-ever effort by the government to rank Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the country.
  • Participation in NIRF was made compulsory for all government-run educational institutions in 2018.
  • Assessment on Five Parameters-
  • Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR)
  • Research and Professional Practice (RP)
  • Graduation Outcomes (GO)
  • Outreach and Inclusivity (OI)
  • Peer Perception.
  • Categories: Best institutions across 11 categories are listed out - overall national ranking, universities, engineering, college, medical, management, pharmacy, law, architecture, dental and research.
