  • In a bid to encourage eco-friendly agriculture, the Agriculture Department of Himachal Pradesh introduced a ‘Mobile Van Program’ as part of the ‘Prakritik Kheti Khushhal Kisan Yojana’ in Shimla.
Mobile Van Program
  • The ‘Mobile Van Program’ aims to promote natural farming and eco-friendly practices by delivering fresh, organic produce to consumers and encouraging the adoption of chemical-free farming methods.
  • The government aims to connect all 9,61,000 farmers in Himachal Pradesh with the ‘Subhash Palekar Natural Farming’ (SPNF) method to establish the state as a ‘Natural Farming State.’
  • The self-certification system allows easy identification of natural farming farmers in the market, meeting national and international standards and eliminating the need for annual recertification, making it convenient for farmers.
Prakritik Kheti Khushhal Kisan Yojana
  • This program was implemented in the very first budget by Honorable Chief Minister Shri Jairam Thakur, incorporating the Subhash Palekar Natural Farming methodology to reduce the use of chemicals in both agriculture and horticulture.
  • With an initial allocation of Rs 25 crore, the scheme’s primary objectives encompass reducing farming costs, increasing farmers’ income, and promoting the overall well-being and prosperity of both farmers and horticulturists.
  • It has set the course for safeguarding human health and the environment from the adverse consequences of chemical-based farming while aligning agricultural practices with environmental sustainability and the changing climate.
  • The scheme will encompass initiatives conducted by the department to support organic farming, including Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), Pramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), or any other related natural farming programs.
