Record 148 Indian universities get featured in QS Asia Rankings 2024

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay has retained its top position in India in the QS World University Rankings-Asia and India has surpassed China in the number of ranked universities.
Major Rankings
  • Peking University of China topped the Asia ranking list by securing Rank 1 followed by the University of Hong Kong in the second position and the National University of Singapore in the third place.
  • Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and Tsinghua University, China have secured 4th spot.
  • Zhejiang University of China secured the 6th position, Fudan University of China in 7th place, Yonsei University of South Korea in 8th spot.
  • Korea University stood on 9th place and the Chinese University of Hong Kong secured the 10th position.
  • A total of 856 universities from Asia are included in this year's QS Asia University Rankings.
  • This year, QS Asia University Rankings can also be viewed in sub-regions which include Central Asia, Eastern Asia, South Eastern Asia, and Southern Asia.
Ranking Methodology
  • The 11 indicators used to compile the QS Asia University Rankings encompass- Academic reputation, Employer reputation, Faculty/ student ratio, International research network, Citations per paper and papers per faculty, Staff with a PhD, Proportion of international faculty, and
  • Proportion of international students and Proportion of inbound exchange students and proportion of outbound exchange students.
India's Ranking
  • IIT Delhi secured the 46th rank, IIT Madras stood at 53rd, IISc claimed the 52nd position, IIT Kharagpur was positioned 61st, and Delhi University secured a spot in the rankings.
  • IIT Bombay demonstrated outstanding performance with an overall score of 67.2 out of 100.
  • It excelled in academic reputation (83.5) and employer reputation (96) and also performed well in faculty-student ratio (14.8), staff with a PhD (100), and papers per faculty (95.7), among other indicators.
  • IIT Bombay's staff with PhD credentials emerged as its strongest indicator. Moreover, IIT Bombay secured the 149th position in the QS World Rankings 2024.
  • India's performance in the international research network indicator, with a score of 15.4, falls slightly below the regional average of 18.8.
  • This is indicative of a broader pattern evident across all internationalization indicators, where India appears to be striving to balance two ambitious goals: catering to the educational needs of its vast domestic student population and enhancing its appeal to international students.
