Shivamogga airport

  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly constructed Shivamogga Airport in Shivamogga, Karnatak.
About Airport
  • The new airport is developed at a cost of around Rs 450 crore.
  • The Passenger Terminal Building of the airport is spread over 4340 sq. meters and can handle 300 Passengers per hour.
  • The Shivamogga Airport is designed like a lotus flower. It is suitable for A-320-type aircraft.
  • This airport is spread across 758 acres of land.
  • The night landing facility is also available at this airport which will start after some time.
UDAN Scheme
  • The UDAN scheme was initiated on 21st October 2016 to fulfill the aspirations of the common citizen by following the vision of ‘Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik’, with enhanced aviation infrastructure and air connectivity in tier II and tier III cities.
  • There were 74 operational airports in 2014 and because of the UDAN scheme, this number has increased to 141 now.
  • 68 underserved/unserved destinations which include 58 Airports, 8 Heliports & 2 Water Aerodromes have been connected under the scheme.
  • With 425 new routes initiated under the scheme, it has provided air connectivity to more than 29 States/ UTs across the length and breadth of the country.
  • More than one crore passengers have availed the benefits of this scheme as on 4th August 2022.
