Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi lit up ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’and begin 50th anniversary celebrations of Indo-Pak War

Highlights
  • As December 16 marks the anniversary of the military victory, the nation will celebrate ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ (golden victory year)
  • Various commemorative events will be conducted pan-India wherein war veterans will be felicitated
  • India celebrates December 16 as Vijay Diwas to commemorate its victory over Pakistan during the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh.
  • Four victory mashaals were lit from the eternal flame at the National War Memorial that will be carried to various parts of India, including to the villages of Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra awardees of the 1971 war.
  • Soil from the villages of these awardees and from areas where major battles were fought in 1971 are being brought to the National War Memorial (NWM)
Vijay Diwas 
  • The 1971 Indo-Pak war lasted for almost 13 days and ended on December 16.
  • On this day, the nation pays tribute to brave soldiers of India and Bangladesh who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
This year also completes 50 years of India’s victory over Pakistan. The government is organising 'Swarnim Vijay Varsh'
