  • Australia and the United States have initiated the Talisman Sabre joint military exercises, a large-scale show of force and unity involving more than 30,000 troops and participants from 11 other countries.

  • This year, Germany joins for the first time, sending 210 paratroopers and marines to bolster its presence in the Indo-Pacific.
  • Additionally, India, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand will attend as observers, enhancing the regional perspective on the exercises.
  • The Talisman Sabre exercises serve as a demonstration of Australia’s dedication to working closely with its international partners to maintain regional security and stability.
  • As Australia strengthens security cooperation with the US and regional allies like Japan and India, it also faces the task of improving trade ties with China amid ongoing disputes related to trade, investment, and security issues.
