WEF's Center for Fourth Industrial Revolution to be set up in Hyderabad

  • The World Economic Forum Center for Fourth Industrial Revolution, “the first thematic centre in India to focus on life sciences and healthcare,” will be set up in Hyderabad.
  • The Centre - C4IR Telangana - will be an autonomous, non-profit organization, leading on policy and governance for healthcare and life sciences. 
About C4IR
  • The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Network, which covers four continents, now includes C4IR Telangana as its 18th centre. 
  • With the establishment of this center, Telangana will become an important node in the global network of 4IR centers, and will also help Telangana consolidate its leadership position globally.
  • Telangana is recognised as one of Asia's top life sciences hubs.
  • Telangana accounts for 1/3 of global vaccine output and is regarded as the vaccine capital of the world.
  • Also, the state contributes to about 35% of India’s pharmaceutical production. 
Other Industrial Revolutions
  • First Industrial Revolution (1800s): It used water and steam power to mechanise production. Example: Steam engine.
  • Second Industrial Revolution (early 1900s): It used electric power to create mass production. Example: Electricity.
  • Third Industrial Revolution (late 1900s): It used electronics and information technology to automate production. Example: Computer and Internet.
