Child Protection Services (CPS) Scheme

In News

To deliver services to children in difficult situations, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has decided to implement a centrally sponsored scheme called the Child Protection Services Scheme.

ABOUT Scheme

  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development is implementing a centrally sponsored scheme namely Child Protection Services (CPS) Scheme under which support is provided to States and UT Governments for delivering services for children in need and difficult circumstances.
  • The Child Care Institutions (CCIs) established under the CPS scheme support inter-alia ageappropriate education, access to vocational training, recreation, health care, counselling etc. and equally covers rural and urban children.

Importance

  • According to the census of 201, there are 472 million children under the age of 18 and they make about 39% of the total population.
  • Therefore, it becomes extremely important to secure and protect the children and their rights that would lead to the culmination of a welfare state as envisaged by the Constitution.
