Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region

  • The meeting was organized to review the progress of Phase-III of the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER).
About MOVCDNER
  • The main aim of the mission is to develop certified organic production in a value chain model to link cultivators with consumers.
  • The scheme supports the development of the entire value chain from inputs, seeds, certification to collection facilities, processing, marketing and brand building.
Objectives
  • Develop crop-specific organic production clusters using technical, infrastructural, financial support.
  • Facilitate partnerships between farmers and business firms
  • Provide enabling environment for development programs and initiatives to support organic value chain development and create market access.
  • Develop commodity-specific commercial organic value chain with end to end facilities for production, harvesting, processing, storage and marketing.
  • Develop organic parks for collection, aggregation, value addition, processing, storage and market linkages for specific commodities.
  • Create state-specific lead agency like Organic Mission or Organic Commodity Board to coordinate, monitor, support and finance the development of the entire value chain.
Strategies
  • Facilitate capacity building, handholding and creation of necessary infrastructure for on-farm input production.
  • Provide training on packaging practices organic commodity cultivators and Facilitate certification services to farmers.
  • Facilitate FPCs to create and operate farm produce, aggregate, trade organic products and give necessary instructions to guide them towards increasing market access.
  • Set up lead agencies at both centre and state level to partner with other agents like value chain supporting agencies, service providers, consultants etc.
  • Provide know-how, access to information and finance. Enable FPCs to offer efficient services by supporting them in building management capacities and stimulating market growth.
